RRAS Field Trips – Back by Popular Demand!


RRAS field trips resume in April 2009

Rita, Tracy, and Je Anne have added 3 great field trips to the schedule. All RRAS field trips are FREE and open to the public. Come a few minutes early so we can start on time and bring a sweet treat for your field trip leader. Be sure to call ahead for reservations.

April 9th – Tule Springs/Floyd Lamb City Park with Rita Schlageter

Our most popular field trip! Enjoy a comfortable walk in the park with one of the most experienced leaders we have. Geared toward new or novice birders who want to learn and hone ID skills while looking for waterfowl, raptors, and songbirds. Veteran birders will enjoy the day too. Perfect field trip, easy to moderate walking. Call Rita for reservations, 382-3327. Meet in the large parking lot on the right just past the entry kiosk. $6.00 entry fee. Bring water, snacks, and lunch. 8:00am – Noon

May 2nd – Corn Creek with Tracy Kipke

Elevation 3,500 feet. Level dirt paths loop around the three (3) spring fed ponds. Plenty of shade, plenty of birds. Easy walking, about 1 mile. Great for desert birds and migrants. Bring someone new to birding with you to share the experience. Call Tracy for reservations, 869-2235. Meet in the parking lot. Bring lots of water and snacks. 8:00am – 11:00 am

May 12th – Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve with Je Anne Branca

Paved path approximately 3/4 mile long and wheelchair accessible. Level soft surface paths, very little shade, lots of walking. Wear appropriate clothing, hat, sunscreen, and comfortable, sturdy shoes. See all the babies (ducks, coots, moorhens etc). Call Je Anne for reservations, 451-6843. Bring lots of water and snacks. 6:30 am – 9:30 am

June 4th – Mount Charleston with Rita Schlageter

High elevation (7,000 to 8,000 ft) with easy to moderate walking. Excellent trip for beginners or experienced. Call Rita for reservations, 382-3327. Meet at McDonalds on Durango & 95 North. Bring water, snacks, and lunch. **Keep an eye on this one: depending upon interest, we may camp out the night before and do a little Owl spotting. 8:00am – Noon
